BERNINA Canada is excited to help BERNINA UK with their initiative to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday this year! To mark Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday in 2016, we’re inviting you to contribute to a special “Quilt For A Queen”. This project will create a unique gift to mark this special occasion while raising funds for Friends of the Elderly, one of the charities of which the Queen is patron. For a charitable donation of £15 or above, we will send you a fabric square (and a spare one to practise on) which you can sew, embroider or decorate with your own birthday design. Your square will contribute to a virtual online quilt, which will include your name. In addition, 60 squares will be selected by an invited panel of judges, including world-renowned quilter Philippa Naylor, to create the quilt that will be given to Her Majesty.

It’s easy to contribute! But hurry, submissions due by May 15th.

Step 1: Make a donation With a donation of £15 to Friends of the Elderly, you will receive a square of fabric to sew, embroider, quilt or embellish a message to her Majesty. Donate Now Step 2: Email your receipt/mailing address Canadian participants should email the receipt and their mailing address to Adrienne at agallagher@bernina-canada.com to receive fabric and instructions. Send Adrienne Your Receipt Step 3: Complete your quilt block The participant mails the finished square back to Adrienne. She will join it up with the receipt and send it off to BERNINA UK. She would like to receive blocks in Markham no later than May 15 (contest closes May 31, 2016). Step 4: Happy Birthday! All squares will be part of a virtual Birthday Quilt for Her Majesty. A panel of judges will decide on 60 blocks to be made into a tangible quilt for The Queen. This finished quilt will be presented to Her Majesty and then will travel around the UK as part of sewing exhibits and trade shows for the rest of the year. All quilt block submissions will be featured on BERNINA Canada’s Facebook page. The following prizes will be awarded to the highest scoring blocks: View Submissions
